The Baboon read every council award notice published 5 August to 5 November 2026 and found 394 contracts at 132 councils whose first term ends in 2027. Each council has a card to share, a link to its buyer page, and the notices behind every count.

How the count is made

Award notices, read for their end dates.

Counted from awards published 5 August to 5 November 2026 on Find a Tender, Contracts Finder, Public Contracts Scotland and Sell2Wales. A contract awarded before that window is not in the count, so this is never a full year of contracts.

Ending in 2027 means the initial term stated on the award notice ends in 2027. Extensions are on the notice where they are stated; a contract with an extension may run on. A contract of under a year is left out, because a short package completing is not a contract coming round again. Terminated contracts are left out. An award and its contract-details notice are one contract, counted once.

A council is a county, district, borough, city, unitary or metropolitan council, a London borough or a combined authority. Parish, town and community councils are left out. The spellings of one council on the notices are counted as one council.

What they are for is the CPV division on each notice. Product families are matched from the CPV codes by the same rule as the Buyer Book, and only goods and works notices join one, so many service contracts carry no family.

What it does not say

A count of notices, not a pipeline.

What is not on this page: no supplier names, no contract values, no titles, and no forecast. Each count is of award notices, and the notice link names the rest at source.

A contract ending is not a promise that it will be tendered again: a council may extend it, bring the work in house, or fold it into a framework. Many contracts ending on one day, or under one title, are usually the call-offs of one framework or select list, and each card says so where it sees that shape.
